New Generations in Dialogue Participant
Jenny Shank, M.A.
Creative Writing Teacher and Freelance Writer, Boulder CO
“I grew up in Denver attending public schools during its era of court-ordered busing for integration, and often write about this experience and my hometown, a city I feel is unfairly neglected in literature, although fellow Denver Catholic writer John Fante was a splendid chronicler of the city seventy years ago. I set many short stories and my first novel, The Ringer, in Denver. I have worked as a journalist for fifteen years, and currently specialize in covering books through reviews, interviews, and articles about the digital transformation of books. While I slog away writing long novels for years, I also write short satires to amuse myself. I live in Boulder, Colorado, with my husband Julien, my six-year-old daughter Maya and my four-year-old son Theo.”
Satire, reviews and interviews in Dallas Morning News, High Country News, PBS MediaShift, Image, McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, The Rumpus, Poets & Writers Magazine, Huffington Post, and Michigan Quarterly Review, among others. Her work can be found online (http://jennyshank.tumblr.com/).
